So I have a question for you. What is the real reason you want to lose weight? Your answer will undoubtedly be a combination of what I list here, but if you had to choose one, what would it be? Is it for self-confidence? Is it for more confidence and pleasure in your relationship? Is it for health – avoiding serious illnesses that may have afflicted those close to you? Is it for longevity? Is it for energy and vitality?
There is a misconception that to be ‘healthy’ you need to essentially turn into a guru of colourful and imaginative vegetable concoctions, ideally changing the menu every day to get the largest variety of food possible.
Did I already say that it’s a misconception?
Can I make it easier for you? First, I need to clarify that protein is important, but you don’t need to be taking in animal protein with all your snacks (nor should you). Legumes, nuts and vegetables are a great source too, especially since you are getting fantastic protein each day from your Elance shakes. This week, go back to the basics. If you have a snacking routine that is working for you, then yes, please stick with it. But if you finding ‘imaginative’ snacks are hard to come up with, then I want you to forgo imagination in favour of health. Decide that your snacks this week will be fruit, nuts, legumes and vegetables. You don’t have to ‘recipe’ them! Pack an apple and a couple tablespoons of pine nuts. Pack some vegetables (whole is fine – why not?) and hummus. Enjoy your almonds, macadamia nuts, or cashews. Take an orange, a pear, some cherries (no fruit yet for you bootcampers!!!) Cut up cucumbers and celery with an ounce of any kind of nut butter. See how simple you can make it and enjoy the mindlessness and the energy that comes with this kind of snacking. Go ahead and eat the same snack every day if you like it and it’s good for you. Why not? There are people around the world in their 80’s, 90’s and yes, 100’s who eat the same healthy diet their whole lives and thrive. You’ll be fine to repeat snacks for weeks or months at a time.
Remember to celebrate your good choices and have a great day!
love Rae
