No, for a change, it’s not me – lol! But someone in my house today had a busy weekend and couldn’t handle the day. She went back to bed and is getting some much needed sleep. When’s the last time you got the sleep you need? When’s the last time you took a good, old-fashioned ‘Sabbath’? How many people even know what a ‘Sabbath’ is?
Back in the good old days, a Sabbath was an entire day from Friday night supper to Saturday night supper where you didn’t do…anything. As in – you didn’t pack up a tent trailer and go to the lake for the day. You didn’t use the time to catch up on laundry. You didn’t go for a 3 hour hike because you had the day off. You actually…(so weird)….rested. Not only was this day on non-productivity not frowned upon, it was actually socially…(I know – this is so hard to wrap our heads around!)….normal. In fact…(prepare yourself for this)…required.
Feeling overwhelmed today? Maybe you’re actually just exhausted. I know you have a lot to do…but why not, for as long as you can manage, give yourself a block of time where you allow yourself to rest without feeling guilty about it. You probably don’t have a full day. (If you do – take it!). But start with whatever you can find. This means no Facebook – no email – no TV – no internet. It’s a rest. It might be scary. But you can do it.
Have a wonderful day. Have a wonderful rest – book it for some time this week (before next Monday).
Love Rae
P.S. I would really love to hear how many of you actually take up the challenge, and what the experience is like for you. And no, I don’t think I’m being melodramatic. I bet 90% of you haven’t rested in months.
Let me know…
