Call me lucky, but my Ophthalmology preceptor (Dr. Lukaris) is the only retina surgeon in northern BC, so in addition to cataract surgery I also watched him peel a membrane off the back of the retina so thin that I couldn’t see it with my naked eyes and other very cool retina things that are harder to explain. Curious about what cataract surgery looks like? I’ve linked a youtube video below. 🙂 The best thing about Prince George has always been the people it attracts. I learned some very important things from Dr. Lukaris:
1. People take you more seriously if you speak with a Welsh accent. I think this is a real thing.
2. Be very, very, very good at what you do and people will thank you for it.
3. Be honest with your patients. Sometimes it will make them laugh. Always it will inspire trust.
4. Be cool. Also, be fun.
Thanks, Dr. Lukaris (and your awesome staff) for kicking off my third year in the best possible way.
